Biographical / historical context
The work belongs to a phase in which Breuillaud reconstructs the landscape through superimpositions, curving rhythms and an organisation by signs rather than by simple transcription of the motif.
Within PR2, this type of composition signals a drift towards greater autonomy of form while still retaining landscape markers (horizon, mountains, built structures).
Formal / stylistic description
The composition unfolds over a warm pinkish-orange ground; a network of dark lines, sometimes blue-black, “stitches” together coloured fragments and holds the ensemble together.
An horizon of mountains can be read as an upper frieze; in the middle zone, architectural forms and interlocking volumes are treated in vivid planes (greens, yellows, reds, blues), with highlights and visible reworkings.
Drawing (lines, arcs, circles) plays a structuring role: it unifies the planes, renews the internal movement and openly asserts a graphic mode of construction.
Comparative analysis / related works
The work shows strong affinities with a corpus of “reconstructed” compositions in which the landscape is treated as an assemblage of signs (facets, arcs, linear punctuations) rather than as a view.
It differs from more directly legible landscapes (PR2-1950-019 and PR2-1950-020) by the predominance of the graphic network and by a highly saturated palette, which anticipates the research of 1951–1952.
Justification of dating and attribution
Formal indicators (faceted syntax, saturated palette, an assertive graphic framework, superimpositions and visible revisions) place the work towards the end of PR2 and the beginning of a more radical transformation around 1950–1951.
